Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld, the founder of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases at the Sheba Medical Center, is a truly unique person: he is a world leader in the research and treatment of autoimmune diseases, with more than 2,150 publications in leading scientific journals and a citation index exceeding 2600
Prof. Schoenfeld's one of Israel's top physicians and scientists, dedicating his life to two fields: autoimmunity and public health. He has already been awarded 24 prizes for his contributions to these fields, including theEular2005 award and the Ometz2016 prize.
In fact, these two fields, autoimmunity and public health, converge in Prof. Schoenfeld's medical credo, endeavors, and achievements. This convergence is due to his incessant efforts toward spreading knowledge to both specialists and the general public. The professional audience is reached via instituting and organizing major, prestigious international conferences on autoimmunity), founding and editing the most important journals in his field, and publishing articles, chapters in books as well as textbooks
Prof. Shoenfeldhas been acknowledged internationally as a leader in the field of autoimmunity, thanks to his outstanding (both qualitatively and quantitatively) scientific achievements: 1) contributing significantly to the deciphering of the causality and mechanisms of autoimmune diseases; 2) identifying and defining new syndromes (Shoenfeld'sAsia syndrome, hyperferritinemicsyndrome);and 3) creating new treatments with human antibodies (IVIG) by developing peptides to become ground-breaking treatments of autoimmune diseases - not only in animals but also in humans - and developing the new drug Tuftsin-phosphorylcholine (TPC) for treating of autoimmune diseases.
